With her can’t-look-away looks and can’t-wait-to-play personality it’s no surprise that full-figure superstar Ljubenka Milunovic is in constant demand from clients on both coasts of the U.S.A. (and pretty much everywhere in-between) and in locales as far-flung as her native Australia. In the course of a career that had its beginnings when she was barely a teenager, Ljubenka has graced the catwalks of Milan, London and New York, been featured in catalogues and advertising campaigns for some of the world’s top brands including Victoria’s Secret, Avon, Levi’s, Fruit of the Loom, Tommy Hilfiger, and Lane Bryant (to name just a few) and is a favorite of mega-clients such as Macy’s Federated, Kohl’s, Bloomingdales and Target. For more than a decade Ljubenka has also represented EziBuy’s plus-sized label, Sara, and in 2008 was appointed as its official face and brand ambassador.
But Ljubenka wasn’t always the poised and professional creature you see before you, hard as that may be to believe. Discovered at the tender age of 13 in her hometown of Sydney, where she was born and raised in a tight-knit Yugoslavian family, Ljubenka dialed-back her blossoming full-figure modeling career to pursue a bachelor of arts in communications. Degree firmly in hand, Ljubenka wasn’t yet content to settle down, and spent the next two years traveling the world (including a 10-month pit stop in Vancouver, Canada) and living life to the fullest—one of her greatest talents—before returning to Oz and, eventually, an international modeling career.
In 2002 the siren song of the U.S.A. beckoned and, after signing with the illustrious Ford modeling agency, Ljubenka relocated to New York City to take her career to the next level, building an enthusiastic following with her U.S. and international clients and appearing on multiple television shows here and abroad (CBS Morning Show, Sunrise, Today Tonight, A Current Affair, The Circle, Mornings with Kerri-Anne, and Good Morning NZ) to discuss her unique take on fashion, living, and issues of interest to real women.
In between bookings Ljubenka also found time to get married (to musician, artist, and fellow Aussie Steve Northeast), set-up a home base in the borough of Brooklyn, give birth to two kids (Mila, 4, and Levi, 2), and pursue her passionate interest in holistic living. Ljubenka is a devotee of swimming and yoga, a committed pescatarian and advocate of organic and local foods (Sunday mornings you can find her at the neighborhood farmer’s market), and a supporter of homeopathic and alternative medicines.
But Ljubenka is more than the sum of her parts—her charisma, generosity, and hospitality are apparent to all she encounters, and her expertise in the realms of fashion, health, and living will make you want to know her better. Far from living aloof in a first-class dream of the world, eye-mask firmly in place on international flights hither and yon, Ljubenka is a working mother in the trenches every day—dealing with a torrential leak in the ceiling two hours before heading into Manhattan for a casting, sprinting from the subway still in full make-up from a shoot to pick up her daughter from pre-school, fighting the crowds at Trader Joe’s before they run out of those organic bananas AGAIN. So you know what? You can hold the glamour. This is real life. Ljubenka’s life. Come take a peek.
You’ll be glad you did.
